Understanding Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition caused by overuse of the forearm

muscles. It leads to pain on the outside of the elbow and can affect athletes, workers, and anyone

performing repetitive gripping or lifting activities.

Common Symptoms:

1 Pain on the outside of the elbow

2 Worsens with gripping, lifting, twisting

3 Tenderness over bony area (lateral epicondyle)

4 Reduced grip strength

Causes & Risk Factors:

Tennis elbow is not just from tennis. It can result from any repetitive wrist extension or gripping — such

as using tools, typing, racquet sports, or heavy lifting. Poor technique and sudden increases in activity

are key contributors.

Treatment Options:

1 Rest and activity modification

2 Ice for pain relief

3 Forearm straps or braces

4 Stretching and strengthening exercises

5 Physical therapy

6 Medications or injections in persistent cases

7 Surgery (rare, for severe cases)

Most patients improve without surgery. The key is early recognition, load management, and targeted exercises. If pain persists, consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
